"Dance of Death" wall art

This bespoke, handcrafted art piece is created from vintage burl wood, using staining techniques more commonly found on high-end guitars.  It showcases everything we know about doing creative stuff with reclaimed wood!
 
The old finish was removed, then a coat of black stain was applied. When this was dry, it was sanded back to leave just a hint of black, where the swirling burr pattens had absorbed it more.  Five coats of deep red stain later, it was ready for a trip to the laser - and then seven coats of gloss lacquer to really make the piece pop.  As if this wasn't enough, we then made the frame from more reclaimed timber, sprayed that black - and it was finally finished.
